Insect cages for
scientists |
Where can I buy quality insect
olfactometers? Small-Life Supplies manufacture 4-arm insect
olfactometers. These are precision made in the UK. Use these olfactometers for
testing odour preferences, for example in parasitoid wasp, Cotesia
kariyai.
Do you know any Clip cage suppliers? I need framed
with long clip. Clip cages are manufactured by Small-Life Supplies
in the UK. They have compressible frames and long clips and are the ideal
experimental tool for confining small insects to leaves when aiming to study
their behaviour and/or other biological parameters.

Olfactometer for insects |
Precision made in the UK
Effective design to measure olfactory
responses
Designed to be dismantled and reassembled
Use this insect olfactometer
to study olfactory responses. Four arms radiate from the central chamber
connecting it to the outer chambers. The arms are a push fit. All chambers have
a solid base and open top.
Specification: The four-arm insect olfactometer is
manufactured from rigid crystal clear plastic. Each chamber is 10cm high x 8cm
diameter. Each connecting arm is 12cm long. The apparatus can be washed in cold
water after use. An assembly instruction leaflet is included. |

Clip
Cages |
Clip Cages |
Economical Ideal for aphids and whiteflies fieldwork
Made in the UK
Use Clip Cages to study aphids and whiteflies on plants. The three
point fixing system ensures a tight fit over the leaf, and minimises aphid
escape. The compressible grey foam minimises damage to the structure of the
leaf. The clear plastic cylinders enable light transmission and easy
observation of the aphids. The fabric mesh attached to these viewing areas
allows for sufficient ventilation.
The top and bottom of the Clip Cage
are identical, allowing for simultaneous observation of aphids both under the
leaf and on top of the leaf. When the field trial is completed, each Clip Cage
should be carefully cleaned in cold water, ideally under a running tap, and
left to air dry overnight.
Specification:
The clear viewing cylinders are 2cm diameter and 1cm high. Fine mesh is glued
across the outer tops of these for ventilation. The compressible grey foam has
outer diameter of 4.5cm. The three point fixing system ensures a tight fit over
the leaf, and minimises aphid escape. |

Insect cages
with netting sleeve access |
Insect
cage with netting sleeve access |
Precision made in the UK Netting sleeve access so ideal for small flying insects
Netting sleeve is long and so is easy to tie into a
knot
Use these
cages if you are housing small flying insects. You can reach into the cage
through the long netting sleeve, thereby minimising the oppportunity for
insects to fly out!
This cage is manufactured from rigid crystal clear
plastic. The top and back panels are mesh, to facilitate optimum ventilation.
The two circular plugs on either side are removable to assist in easy
cleaning of the cage when the research project has ended.
Specification: Different sizes are available. The
example featured in the photographs is 30cm x 30cm x 30cm. The cage can be
washed in cold water after use. |

ELC insect cages
- modified to your needs |
Access flap on
lid of ELC cage |
Economical Fast supply
Made in the UK
Our standard ELC insect cages are
being used in laboratories nationwide. For full details on the standard ELC
cage see ELC insect cage
We can also modify the standard design of the ELC cage to meet
your specific requirements. This can be a very cost effective way to get the
cage design that you require. And this process is usually quick
too!
Please contact us to discuss your
requirements. Previous modifications include :
º adding a small
access flap on the lid, very useful when quick but restricted access is
needed.
º reinforcing the floor of ELC
cage. The reinforced strengthened floor does not flex under load. This means
that you can place a potted plant on the floor and there will be no gap between
the walls and base because the floor remains rigid and flat. This design is
being used to house bees with potted plants. The ELC cage is large enough for
the bees to fly around and forage on the potted plants.
º inserting a central partition in the ELC cage, so the
interior is divided into two compartments.
º reducing the height of the
cage. The standard height of the ELC cage is 51cm but we can supply shorter
versions. The 36.5cm width and 27.5cm depth dimensions are
unchanged.
Specification
of standard ELC cage: Height 51cm,
20". Width 36.5cm, 14½". Depth 27.5cm,
10¾". Weight 2.3kg. Material:
plastic. Made in the UK.
